Parts of Speech
  1. Noun: a person, place, thing, abstraction, or idea

  2. cat, dog, Rome, Virginia, John, Paul, George, Ringo, love, war
     
  3. Adjective: describes a noun

  4. red, blue, hot, good, bad, tall
     
  5. Pronoun: replaces a noun

  6. he, she, it, they, we, you, him, her, who, whom
     
  7. Verb: denotes an action or state of existence

  8. is, are, run, walk, read, study, eat, sleep
     
  9. Adverb: describes a verb, an adjective, or another adverb

  10. happily, slowly, quickly, well
     
  11. Preposition: denotes a spatial (space) or temporal (time) relationship to a noun. Prepositions introduce a "prepositional phrase" which includes a preposition and its object (a noun or pronoun)

  12. under the bush, through the bush, near the bush …
     
  13. Conjunction: joins together two words or clauses.

  14. Coordinating conjunctions join two equal things
    cats and dogs, pizza or burgers, don’t walk but run, neither good nor bad.

    Subordinating conjunctions join two unequal things, a dependent clause to a main clause
    If Paul sings, they will win; When Ringo dances, everyone watches; Because John likes Yoko, she is happy.
     

  15. Exclamation: a word of emotion, surprise, or pleasure

  16. hooray! ouch! aha!
