Passive Verbs
3rd, 3rd io, and 4th conjugations
Present, Imperfect, Future Tenses

1. Remember the ACTIVE voice personal verb endings:

singular plural

1^st -o/-m (I) -mus (we)

2^nd -s (you) -tis (ya’ll)

3^rd -t (he, she, it) -nt (they)

2. Remember the tense markers for 3rd and 4th conjugations:

Present none am/is/are (verb)ing

Imperfect -ba- was/were (verb)ing

Future -am/-e- will (verb)

3. Remember the PASSIVE voice personal verb endings:

singular plural

1^st -r (I) -mur (we)

2^nd -ris (you) -mini (ya’ll)

3^rd -tur (he, she, it) -ntur (they)

4. Remember the ACTIVE infinitive endings

-ere (ducere) to lead
-ere (rapere) to seize
-îre (scîre) to know

5. Learn the PASSIVE infinitive endings

-î (ducî) to be led
-î (rapî) to be seized
-îrî (scîrî) to be known

6. If the verb is PASSIVE, nothing IS DONE by the subject (lazy subject!)

Puella â puerô ducitur

Puella â puerô ducebâtur

Puella â puerô ducêtur

7. Notes: for 3rd and 3rd io conjugations only

2nd singular present passive = duceris; raperis

2nd singular future passive = ducêris; rapiêris
